FAQ

About mmsFocus

What is mmsFocus?

L
K

In short mmsFocus is guided, intentional movements combined with music and sensory stimulation.

It is a simple and structured method for finding calm, strengthening presence, creating mental clarity and increasing awareness of movement.

Sessions take place in small groups or one-to-one, guided by a certified instructor. You hold a aesthetically designed and responsive inmu® sensory cushion in your hands. You move slowly. You listen to the music. You feel the gentle vibrations. You breathe. You sense. You notice.

The method combines interactive music, movement awareness training, sensory stimulation and relaxation techniques with a physical sensory object — the inmu® cushion.

Through this focused and structured use of music, movement and sensory awareness, mmsFocus supports nervous system regulation and strengthens the connection between body and brain, thoughts and actions.

Where does the name mmsFocus come from?

L
K

The name mmsFocus reflects the three core elements of the method:

Music
Movement
Sensing

These elements form the foundation of the practice.

By combining interactive music, motor skills, movement, and sensory awareness in a structured way, mmsFocus creates focus.

The word “Focus” refers both to the training of attention and to the clarity that often emerges through the practice.

What is the purpose of mmsFocus?

L
K

The purpose of mmsFocus is to strengthen focus and support mental clarity.

For human beings, calm is as essential as food and water. Yet calm is more than physical stillness or the absence of worrying thoughts. Through awareness of movement and sensing, we create calm in the body, and this has a direct connection to our mental state, our ability to concentrate and our capacity to relate to others.

For a person to function well, the body’s systems must work in balance, and in balance with one another. In other words, they must be in regulation.

mmsFocus is designed to support this balance. Through the structured use of music, movement and sensory awareness, the method strengthens the connection between body and brain. When attention is trained through simple, physical focus exercises, mental noise gradually decreases and concentration becomes clearer.

mmsFocus does not need to be understood intellectually before it can be experienced. You do not need knowledge of neuroscience, psychology or spiritual frameworks. When you engage in the guided exercises, the body shows the way.

By training mind and body together, you gradually develop a clearer sense of what focus feels like. As distractions are reduced, mental energy becomes more available.

mmsFocus creates space, not by forcing silence, but by guiding awareness through the body.

How does mmsFocus differ from meditation or mindfulness?

L
K

mmsFocus shares some of the benefits associated with meditation, such as calm, clarity and increased presence. However, method differs in several important ways.

mmsFocus gives attention something concrete to rest on. You hold a inmu® sensory cushion in your hands or against your body. It functions as a physical anchor, reference point and focus point. Holding the cushion often creates a natural sense of orientation and safety, and your movements gain direction and purpose.

Music plays a central role. Not as music from a playlist but as interactive music. The inmu® cushion responds to your touch and movement in real time. You do not listen passively — you participate. This active musical engagement can strengthen emotional connection and embodied awareness. Also music helps you to keep your motivation.

Gentle vibration stimulates the skin and deeper tissue layers, providing direct sensory input to the nervous system. This tactile stimulation supports regulation and grounding.

mmsFocus is guided, intentional movement combined with music and sensory stimulation. Movement often makes it easier to settle the mind and strengthen the connection between body, brain and emotional state.

All exercises have a clear purpose – a clear focus. You train your ability to focus – like training a muscle. It helps you be more aware of yourself, your own space and your surroundings.

No prior experience, special knowledge or particular clothing is required. This makes the method accessible to a broad audience – including people that find entering a mindfull state difficult.

Is mmsFocus a quick mindfulness or relaxation technique?

L
K

mmsFocus often creates an immediate sense of calm and focus.

At the same time, the method is intentionally gradual. It develops layer by layer through sensory experience and brain–body integration.

The exercises are structured progressively, allowing the sensory and nervous systems to integrate the experience over time.

It is accessible in the moment — and designed for long-term development of focus, regulation and mental clarity.

Is mmsFocus therapy or medical treatment?

L
K

No.

mmsFocus is not therapy or medical treatment. It is a structured sensory practice designed to strengthen focus and support regulation of the nervous and sensory systems.

At the same time, the method can have significant value within therapeutic, rehabilitation or pedagogical contexts as a supportive method.

The inmu® sensory cushions were originally invented as therapeutic tools and are widely used in special needs schools, care homes, rehabilitation and educational settings.

How does mmsFocus differ from psychotherapy?

L
K

mmsFocus does not involve analysing or verbally processing personal experiences.

The method is based on movement and sensory experience. It is a structured sensory practice where you engage brain, body and emotions. It does not involve discussing or analysing personal history.

How does mmsFocus affect the body and mind?

L
K

Through embodied awareness and conscious sensory engagement, mmsFocus strengthens attentional awareness — your ability to direct attention, return to it when it drifts, and sustain it over time.

The mmsFocus method works through structured sensory stimulation. It supports regulation of the nervous system, the sensory system and body–brain integration. This coordinated input promotes both mental and physical balance and helps calm the body and mind.

Interactive music, gentle movement and other sensory stimulation provide clear and organised sensory information. Over time, regular practice may strengthen:

  • The ability to shift from tension to calm
  • Regulation of breathing and muscle tone
  • Awareness of stress signals
  • Sustained attention and mental clarity
  • Body awareness, including balance and posture

Rather than forcing relaxation, mmsFocus supports self-regulation through structured sensory engagement.

What is the scientific foundation of mmsFocus?

L
K

mmsFocus combines well-documented mechanisms from neuroscience, movement science and sensory integration.

Music, tactile stimulation, structured movement, breathing exercises and focused attention are supported by established research. Each element has documented positive effects — while their structured combination is unique to mmsFocus.

Research on mmsFocus as a complete method is ongoing.

The experience

What can mmsFocus do for me?

L
K

Participants often experience a sense of calm and clarity already during the first session.

Over time — as your body and brain become familiar with focused sensory engagement — the effect often becomes deeper and more stable.

You will gradually discover how mmsFocus gives you practical ways to initiate or restore:

  • Greater presence in everyday life — with people and surroundings
  • A stronger ability to direct and sustain focus
  • Greater physical and mental energy
  • Increased awareness of your body and its signals
  • Improved communication and relational awareness

Rather than producing one fixed outcome, mmsFocus opens different pathways into regulation, clarity and energy — and you learn how to access them when needed.

How soon will I notice an effect?

L
K

A noticeable change is often felt after the first session — both physically and mentally.

With regular practice, the effect typically becomes more stable and lasting. As you strengthen your ability to direct attention, engage your senses and regulate your state, calm and clarity become easier to access.

Who can benefit from mmsFocus?

L
K

mmsFocus is for individuals who want to strengthen mental clarity, increase mental energy and create a more balanced state in everyday life.

It is particularly relevant for people who:

  • Experience stress, burnout or sleep difficulties
  • Often feel mentally overloaded or are easily distracted
  • Want better focus and sustained concentration
  • Seek healthy, restorative pauses that support long-term wellbeing
  • Find it difficult to get into a mindfull state
  • Prefer a grounded, body-based approach rather than verbal analysis

mmsFocus is inclusive and adaptable to personal abilities. No prior experience is required.

Is there a right or wrong way to do mmsFocus?

L
K

Yes and no.

mmsFocus consists of specific, guided exercises. The instructor provides clear structure and instructions throughout the session. You are not asked to improvise or invent your own practice.

At the same time, the method does not aim for a specific inner state or expect you to have a particular experience.

You follow the guidance within your own comfort level. There is no comparison or competition.

Within the structured framework, you develop your own focus through movement and sensory awareness.

There is no “correct” feeling you need to achieve — but there is a clear and intentional way of practising.

Can mmsFocus help with sleep problems?

L
K

Yes.

Many participants report improved sleep.

By supporting nervous system regulation and reducing mental activation, the body may find it easier to settle. The method also includes exercises that are well suited for unwinding before bedtime or practising while lying in bed.

Can mmsFocus reduce anxiety?

L
K

mmsFocus is not a treatment for anxiety disorders, PTSD or other trauma-related conditions.

However, the structured sensory engagement and focus training can support nervous system regulation and grounding. Some individuals with stress- or trauma-related symptoms report feeling more stable and less overwhelmed with regular practice.

Improved sleep and increased bodily awareness may also contribute to a greater sense of overall wellbeing.

Individual experiences vary.

Can neurodivergent individuals benefit from mmsFocus?

L
K

Yes.

mmsFocus can be a valuable and inclusive practice for neurodivergent individuals, including people with ADHD or within the autism spectrum.

The structured sensory input, clear focus points and movement elements support attention regulation, arousal regulation, sensory awareness and impulse control. The predictable format and multi-sensory approach can create a sense of orientation and stability.

As with any sensory practice, experiences vary and exercises can be adapted to individual needs.

Can children participate in mmsFocus?

L
K

Yes.

mmsFocus is well suited for children and can be an important method for supporting the foundations of learning.

Through structured sensory engagement, movement and interactive music, children strengthen their ability to regulate sensory input and arousal levels, develop sustained attention and understand how focus is created and maintained.

The method helps children become more aware of their senses, their reactions and their personal boundaries. By experiencing how movement, sound and attention influence their state, they gradually build the skills needed for concentration, cooperation and learning.

Specific formats may vary depending on age and setting.

Can mmsFocus reduce pain?

L
K

mmsFocus is not a pain treatment.

However, attention training and sensory regulation can influence how discomfort is perceived.

Practicalities

What happens in a session?

L
K

A session typically takes place in a small group in a calm space.

You stand or sit facing the instructor – or you lie down. There is no talking during the exercises. Many participants choose to close their eyes.

You hold a inmu® sensory cushion in your hands or place it gently against your body.

The instructor guides you through slow, deliberate exercises involving breathing, simple movements, balance and sensory focus.

As you move, the inmu responds with music and gentle vibration in real time. Your movements shape the music. The sound from each participant’s inmu blends into a shared, calm soundscape.

The session follows a clear structure with defined phases and transitions. You are guided step by step, so you always know what to do.

How long is a session?

L
K

A full session typically lasts 60 minutes.

Shorter 15-minute sessions are also possible.

What should I wear?

L
K

Regular, comfortable clothing is recommended. The exercises are mostly gentle, slow and not physically demanding.

Is mmsFocus safe?

L
K

mmsFocus is a gentle and structured sensory practice.

An important part of the method is developing greater awareness of your nervous and sensory systems — learning to recognise your own capacity and limits.

The exercises are adaptable, and participants are encouraged to move within their individual comfort zone.

You may occasionally notice temporary emotional or physical reactions as the body releases tension and adapts to sensory stimulation. This can include mild dizziness, emotional release such as tears, or changes in bodily sensation, for example feeling warm or experiencing chills.

Such reactions are generally part of the body’s natural regulatory processes. Instructors are trained to observe and support participants safely if reactions arise.

Do I need any experience to join?

L
K

No prior experience is required.

All exercises are guided, gentle and adaptable to personal abilities. The method is accessible to most people.

Do I need to interact with other participants?

L
K

No.

Although sessions are typically performed in a group, there is very little interaction between participants. You do not talk during the session. Many participants keep their eyes closed and focus inward.

Participants often describe the experience as being in a private, sheltered space while still feeling part of a group.

The focus remains on individual sensing within a shared, quiet environment.

Can I practise mmsFocus alone?

L
K

Yes.

mmsFocus exercises are well suited for practising alone. During sessions, you learn simple techniques that can support you in everyday life — from short mental reset pauses, to preparing your focus before an important task, or helping your body settle before sleep.

But being part of a guided group session can often make it easier to let go of thoughts and mental tension. Many participants find it valuable to simply show up and be guided through a clear structure.

Practising in a group also supports consistency. The shared experience encourages continuity — and continuity strengthens the effect.

How often should I participate?

L
K

Weekly participation is recommended. If possible, you may also practise daily. mmsFocus is a gentle method and can be practised regularly.

Regular practice supports integration and long-term development of focus and self-regulation.

Many find it meaningful to make mmsFocus part of their daily routine — for example as a short practice after work, using relaxation and breathing exercises to reset and recharge.

Can mmsFocus be combined with other practices?

L
K

Yes.

mmsFocus is a full practice in itself, but it can also complement different types of therapy, coaching or physical training.

By strengthening sensory awareness, body awareness and attention regulation, it may deepen your ability to engage with other practices.

Can workplaces integrate mmsFocus?

L
K

Yes.

mmsFocus is well suited for workplaces and can be integrated directly into the workday. Sessions can take place in a meeting room, office space or common area. No special clothing is required, and there is no need for showers afterwards. Short sessions (10–15 minutes) or full sessions (60 minutes) can be scheduled to fit the workday.

The standing or seated exercises can be practised in most environments — from offices and institutions to healthcare and educational settings.

Regular mmsFocus sessions can support:

  • Mental clarity and sustained focus
  • Healthy and effective screen breaks
  • Regulation before meetings or demanding tasks
  • Shared reset moments that strengthen presence and collaboration
  • Individual decompression before leaving work

The inmu® cushion

What is the cushion used in mmsFocus?

L
K

The cushion used in mmsFocus is an inmu® sensory cushion.

It is an electronic sensory cushion that responds to touch and movement with music and gentle vibration. When you hold it or move with it, the music changes in real time.

The inmu® is not a speaker or a musical instrument. It is an interactive device designed to create a calming and focused sensory experience through sound, touch and movement.

Inside the cushion, sensor technology detects how it is held, moved and touched — translating these movements into music and vibration.

Do I need my own inmu® cushion?

L
K

No, you don’t need your own.

Your mmsFocus instructor will provide you with an inmu® cushion during the session.

However, you can purchase an inmu® cushion if you would like to practise the exercises at home.

Where can I buy my own inmu® sensory cushion?

L
K

Your instructor can guide you to a sales point, or you can find authorised resellers globally via the manufacturer’s website: inmutouch.com.
